Calathea Orbifolia- Orbifolia Prayer Plant

The Calathea Orbifolia, also called the Orbifolia Prayer Plant, boasts large, round leaves growing up to 30cm in diameter. General Care

Light 

This stunning plant thrives in medium to bright indirect light. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. Place your plant near a north or east-facing window, or use sheer curtains to filter the light. The leaf patterns may fade if the light is too dim, so finding the perfect balance is key.

Water

The Calathea Orbifolia prefers consistently moist soil but not soggy conditions. Water your plant when the top inch of the soil feels slightly dry. Ensure that your pot has proper drainage to prevent waterlogging. It's best to use room-temperature water to avoid shocking the roots. 

Humidity 

Maintaining adequate humidity is crucial, as it originates from the rainforests of South America. Provide humidity by misting the leaves regularly or placing a humidifier nearby. Alternatively, you can create a pebble tray by filling a tray with water and placing the pot on top, ensuring the water level is below the pebbles. As the water evaporates, it will increase the humidity around the plant.

Soil 

The Orbifolia Prayer Plant prefers well-draining, peat-based soil. Potting soil, perlite, peat moss, or coco coir works well. Ensure that the soil is airy and retains moisture without becoming waterlogged.

Musical Leaves: When the sun sets and the light dims, you may notice the Orbifolia Prayer Plant's leaves folding up. This phenomenon, known as nyctinasty, is a unique characteristic many Calathea species share. It gives the impression of the plant folding its leaves like hands in prayer, hence the common name "Prayer Plant."
