African Violet- Saintpaulia

These dainty compact, low-growing plants may be nostalgic of Grandmas house, but the popularity of these bright and cheerful flowers has been booming since late 1800's. Don't be put off by their reputation for difficulty: providing you follow a few simple rules, African violets should thrive indoors. With a little experience and right care, it's possible to keep them in flower nearly all year round with a lifespan of up to 50 years!

General Care


Thrives in bright but not direct sunlight.


Keep soil slightly moist with warm tempered water.

Common Problems

African Violets commonly face disease and pest problems like most house plants. However watering correctly is vital to African Violet to thrive- Do not allow water to contact the leaves to prevent damage, other than light misting. Water from below, or push the water spout into the soil when watering. Don't allow the plant to sit in water.
